Okay, so I’m an aspiring YA/teen author. I know that in order to be a good author, you need to be well rounded and explore other genres that would normally be out of your comfort zone. I’m pretty partial to books that have romance/love in it, dealing with family/friend drama, and with a little humor to it. I’ve recently read books (i.e. House of Night Series: books 1-5) and I realize I’d really like to hone up on my writing skills as far as adding some mystery/suspense to my stories and books. Does anyone have any tips as to writing good stories that will keep the reader in suspense and how to progress the story so it’s not always apparent that the protagonist will win in the end?
Also, does anyone know of any good suspenseful/mystery teen/YA books our there? Also, I’m a female and I’m not too crazy about books with a male as the narrator.

You may want to check out Annette Curtis Klause. Shes only written 4 books over the course of about 20 years but their really awesome books. My favorite “Blood and Chocolate” was turned into a movie. Its about werewolves. There’s also “The Silver Kiss” about Vampires, “Alien Secrets” about (obviously) aliens and “Freaks: Alive on the Inside” about circus freaks. The only one narrated by a male character is “Freaks” and it is also the longest. I didn’t think I would like it as much because it is narrated by a male but its definitely my 2nd favorite. I know this isn’t exactly the genre you were looking for but all her stories have the kind of plot where you have to figure out the mystery. These books really have it all. Mystery, romance and fantasy. Great reads.
