Is it possible to purchase an Amazon Kindle in Australia, for use in Australia?

After looking at all the functions and resources available on the Kindle supplied by Amazon in the USA, including downloading of books, magazines etc, is the equivalent available in Australia. If so, where from?, if not, will it be in the future? and is there a approximate date of release?

No, you cannot buy it directly in Australia. You need an account and credit card with a United States address to buy a Kindle online.
If you know someone in the United States, they could get it for you and mail it to you.
You will still be able to use all the features except downloading content wirelessly.

I guess it will eventually be available internationally, just don’t know when it will happen… When it happens, it must be shown in the Kindle 2 sales page:
