Looking For a Helpful AND FREE photography tips website or book!?

I have a Nikon D60 and want to get more comfortable with my manual mode and would like to find a good site ( even a book) with tips and techniques. I have been experimenting with my photography but can’t quite achieve the shot I am looking for. I do a lot of portraits.
